Thoracic Onco surgery

Dr srinivas prasad, has deep knowledge in thoracic Oncology and has expertise in highly specialized technologies and surgical methods to remove tumors of the lung, mediastinum, pleura and chest wall.

Lung Cancer surgery

  • Lung preserving / saving operations: Lobectomy / Segmentectomy / Wedge Resection .
  • Pneumonectomy: An entire lung is removed, typically for more advanced lung cancer cases.
  • Sleeve lobectomy/ sleeve resection is performed in order to save part of the lung.
  • Pancoast Tumor Surgery / superior sulcus tumor: A complex procedure that involves removing the upper lobe of the lung as well as any portion of the chest wall, or other involved structures.
  • Surgery for lung metastasis ( tumors originating elsewhere and spread to lungs)
  • Laser and endobronchial stenting techniques for airway obstruction
  • Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS): Shorter hospital stay / Faster recovery / Significantly less pain / Reduced blood loss

Alternatively, we are associated with the state of the art facilities to treat patients who are high risk for surgery with non-surgical methods like:

  • Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA)
  • Stereotactic Radio Surgery (SRS):  True beam STX/ Cyberknife synchronyCyberKnife Synchrony

Mediastinal Tumors:

  • Thymic tumors :
Localised thymoma, carcinoma and carcinoid are usually treated by surgery.
Locally advanced tumors are treated with Radiotherapy and chemotherapy
  • Lymphomas – treated by chemotherapy
  • Germ cell tumors are treated with chemotherapy and surgery if required
  • For Sarcomas of the mediastinum, surgery is the most effective treatment
  • For neurogenic tumors, surgery is the most effective treatment.

Tumors arising from layers on the lungs (pleura) or peritoneum

  • Surgery for benign tumors: Adenomatoid tumors/solitary fibrous tumor
  • Surgery for malignant mesothelioma:

A unique treatment for Pleural  peritoneal mesothelioma. using Intrapleural heated chemotherapy (HITOC), a procedure very similar to HIPEC, for pleural mesotheliomas.

– Pleurectomy decortication: Which spares the lung

– Extrapleural pneumonectomy: In which the lung itself is removed

-Cytoreductive Surgery /Hyperthermic Intrathoracic Chemoperfusion (CS/HITHOC)
